Recently, HQ Greensboro acquired an “I” Beam Mobile from local artist Jay Jones. Mr. Jones’ company, JFJones Mobiles, is based out of Greensboro, NC. While based in North Carolina, the work of Jay and his wife Naomi has been featured in numerous museums in the U.S., Asia and Europe.

While a great deal of his mobiles are constructed of copper and “capture the beauty and whimsy of the natural world”, Mr. Jones has made the transition to a new medium. The “I” Beam Mobile’s inspiration stems from the famous photograph, “Lunch atop a Skyscraper”, whose creation is credited to Charles C. Ebbets. Jones states that the “I” Beam Mobile is the “most contemporary piece” that he does.

Jay Jones’ work has proven to be a perfect fit for both HQ Greensboro, and The Forge. The “I” Beam Mobile is contemporary, innovative, balanced, and industrial, while simultaneously possessing a somewhat precarious nature. Both HQ Greensboro and The Forge focus on empowering local entrepreneurs, a profession that attracts driven, risk-taking, and determined individuals. Jones’ piece highlights the entrepreneurial and creative spirit we’re all about.
